Some of the responses from the fans are:
1: "For me it is good. Not broadway good but good enough. I won't judge her until I see her perform live. It sounds like she is just singing in Party Pilipinas. But I don't mind listening to pop. I like pop. For now I'm giving her the benefit of the doubt since this is her first. But she better do her best to impress me on the show."
2: "Actually simula palang napapakinggan ko. LOL It sounds so "pop". I assume they haven't rehearsed yet. I hope mag-improve ng bongga."
3: "Poor diction. Seriously. But kulang pa. Seriously, there's something lacking. Emotions. There's nooooooo emotions. No longing for a pair of feet."
4: "Yeah, it's not that convincing YET. We'll see. She still has a few months! It's kinda airy..."
5: "Does this mean na there's gonna be a recording for the show like in N2N or Xanadu?"
4: "I think so..."
3: "Please, don't!"
I'm posting fan responses because these comments are REAL and has no bias. And because I built this blog for fans, I might as well write with a fan's point of view. We aren't narrow-minded and limit theater for theater actors only. I, myself, is a fan of Nikki Gil's work on stage. Yes, I did have doubts about her as Elle Woods but after seeing her on stage, I am more than excited now to see her as Charity in 9 Works' Sweet Charity. But they shouldn't have released a preview of Rachelle singing a song from the show because it is not polished yet. But still, even without the trust on the leads, we trust the show. It is still The Little Mermaid which starred Sierra Boggess on Broadway and it is still Atlantis Productions that will stage the show, so people will still watch it. And I will watch the show because I am also excited for the Asian puppetry they promised about.
Still flippin'
I know Shin. She has a drive for excellence. She'll nail that role. =)
ReplyDelete@Oliver I hope so. I do believe in her. I think she can improve. :)
ReplyDelete@Ching...I'm sorry, but there seems to be a misunderstanding. This audio is actually the recorded version of the song that will be a bonus track on Rachelle's upcoming album "Unbreakable" (to be released this August). Therefore, of course, the live performance on the musical won't be exactly the same, especially after rehearsals and further direction. The fans responses that you shared may not be valid, since I think they were expecting this audio to be a preview of the actual future live performance this November/December. So please clarify that this is a bonus track to her album. I can assure you that Rachelle will do justice for the role. Even the 2 Directors of the musical said that she was perfect for the role when she auditioned. Disney, who has to approve every single detail, even said she was perfect. People will definitely enjoy it. Thank you Ching for spreading awareness about this musical. I'm sure it'll be a huge success. :)
ReplyDeletefyi, this is not a recording for the musicale. this is a leaked copy of her 'pop' version of the song which is part of her up and coming album. hence, the pop sound.
ReplyDelete@2 Anonymous - Oh, I see. But I don't think it's an excuse that because it's part of a "pop" album, there would be no emotions. And I think it's supposed to be a preview to the musical, because she included it in the album and she's going to star in the same musical. If the production will release a CD lite, I do think this will be the same recording they'll use. Rachel Alejandro did this for Xanadu as well.
ReplyDeleteBut as I said in the previous comment, I do believe in her.
Ching Nicolas, it'll be different when she sings it live in the musical. It'll be more powerful and more Broadway like. She will be acting while singing, unlike being behind a recording booth in a studio which is hard for anyone to imagine acting on stage especially for someone who has no prior experience in a big budget musical (that's the difference). So emotions will definitely show naturally and be more evident on stage. People shouldn't be quick to judge this audio. Rachelle Ann Go will definitely deliver and nail the role come November and December. If Atlantis releases a CD of the musical, I'm sure Rachelle will rerecord this song.
ReplyDeleteJust watch the show and you'll see!
ReplyDeleteGuys, try to compare Rachelle Ann's to Sierra Bogges' version, Rachelle's rendition is way better! Listen up y'all! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SNQ_0Or4RxY
ReplyDeleteYou guys, chill. We're not judging her performance yet, just this recording. Once again, I do believe in her.
ReplyDeleteOmigosh you guise. Kalma lang. =))
ReplyDeleteIn the spirit of not being biased, I just find the comments of fans that you posted as biased in the sense that they are all negative. There are more positive responses to her version. I myself have heard it, and I had goosebumps listening to it. Untrue that the recorded version is devoid of emotions. So if you would like to give her a chance, then I hope you don't preempt her performance by focusing on the negative comments before the actual run has started. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteCan I ask where you got the comments from? I don't see them sa youtube videos. Even sa twitter, puro positive reactions lang nabasa ko. Next time you cite comments, please provide a link to the sources especially when you say they are "real". Salamat.
ReplyDeleteYou, guys. "someone posted in our fan club's Facebook group this audio..." These are comments from the fans of the show. It's clear in these comments that we'd give Rachelle a chance. I've seen Rachelle perform on T.V., and if you read my previous post about her: "Rachelle Ann Go, however is great as well, and she can belt really high soprano notes when I saw one episode of her noon time show, Party Pilipinas."
ReplyDeleteIn other words, these are all first impressions.
I actually received a tweet from the director of the show, Bobby Garcia, and he said there won't be a soundtrack of the musical, just the bonus track on Rachelle's CD. Regarding how she would fare on the show, I believe she would perform perfectly. As mentioned by an anonymous here, even the director/s of the show and Disney bosses themselves said that she's perfect for the role, so I firmly believe she would be the best mermaid ever!!!
ReplyDeleteat the very least she is enunciating the words...normally most of her lyrics are garbled and they are usually very nasal.
